Few reasons why you should NOT subscribe to Cricket World Cup package

So I did what I should not have done at all... agreed to get cricket-ticket package for Cricket world cup 2011. Not only it took me 5 days, 12 calls and test of my patience to get the package from Direct TV, I went through the after effects of my decision. Here is the list of reasons why no wife should say Yes to get full subscription:

1: He can get some funny fashion ideas.
H: arrgghh look at Zaheer's hair style (golden spike on a right lock)
A (almost simultaneously): I love Zaheer's hair style - I may get this
H: SERIOUSLY

2. He will become deaf-er (yes it is possible)
H: Oh the match is SO boring - India has almost won (Ban needed >100 runs in 5 overs). Let's go shopping!
A: hmmm haan (no other reaction) and continues to watch till the last ball

3. You will hear some very interesting Hindi- Cricket terms
A: Thats chauka - thats 'bijlee connection'

4. Alarms start to go off at 5:00am on weekends
H: plsss get up or stop snoozing this alarm
A: hmmm 2 more minutes plsssss

....
......
.........
Last but not the least, if you have to watch WC final without him (because he is busy partying in India with his/your friends) then you miss him even more....you realize that you actually miss those stupid fashion inspirations, early morning alarms, local language commentry, that macho balle balle jumping jack, your partner in crime/happiness.

Shantaram

Finally after owning book for 5 years and 2 failed attempts, I have read Shantaram.

This book was a birthday gift from two of my good friends (TnR). I wanted to read the book cause it was highly rated. TnR wanted to give me something about Mumbai - they love Mumbai (I on the other hand ...I like Mumbai).

For the first two times, I didn't like this book at all. Too much of 'i love India' for me at that time. I really culdn't understand how and why would an Australian will love India !

However, this time, my perception was very different. I did love my country 5 years back...but I used to think that since other countries are so much modern and progressed that no one from those countries can love India. But then, I moved to UK and then US. As they say, grass is always greener on the other side...after moving to different countries, I understood that though these countries are indeed very cosmopolitan, provide great facilities to residents...they still don't have what we have in India. India has reality, it has proximity to life and human beings, or as it is said in Shantaram...India has heart. I know these are big statements but my experience in two different countries has made me appreciate what we have in India - something which I didn't see earlier and probably could have never seen, had I stayed there for all my life.

And it is because of this experience, this change that I could appreciate, enjoy and really love the story of Shantaram. Yes, there were fictional subplots in the novel but through out the book, Gregory never lost touch to one reality - he loves India/mumbai. And that's what binds me to story of Shantaram .

PS: It has been 2 weeks since I have finished this book. But still, now when I read anything else, I start thinking abt Shantaram - weird but it is the only character after Harry Potter about whom I have thought after completing a book! Has this happen with you?

First post (should I call it virgin post ;-P) : mere waale iphone app

I had bought an iphone ard 2 months back. Most of my friends know that I have been struggling since then to justify this purchase. I like all the jazz of touch screen but I am not convinced on need to spend $$$ for a bigger phone (which is everything else but a good phone).

Come on face it - iphone is not a great phone. Hold one way and signal/voice will fade, hold close to your cheeks (spl if you have chubby cheeks like mine) then depending upon cheek's surface area, either factime will start, or mute or speaker will get on. Contact list is sorted on last name (pls who the hell does that). And for some reason, this phone doesn't work well with my car bluetooth (oh I love my car - but more on that some other time). Hence, it's not a good phone but, it's everything else.

Back to topic - I keep on trying all free apps . Recently I tried 'line2' and google voice. These app allows users to make VoIP calls which means free calls over wifi. Very simple to configure and use. Follow steps to select 2nd number and use these app to make calls with wifi connection without using minutes. Voice quality is perfect and they allows you to use iphone contact list to select numbers (no need to key in numbers).

These are THE app for a person like me who has become a big minute spender and who has started eating all those sweet saved roll over minutes to the extend that my husband has noticed that. So expect to get more calls from my 'other' number in evenings now :-)

At Last

I had been thinking of blogging for quite some time. But I have this habit of NOT doing what everyone else is doing. So when  realized that everyone else is blogging, I lost interest in it. However it has been some time that I have seen new blogs so I think (in my perfect world) that this fad is getting old now. So here I am - starting to write things about me and my life !

I am going to have threads on my blogs - threads to different things in my life, things around my life, opinions and suggestions. Since I usually don't have time and patience to write everything about anything at one time, I will keep on adding my thoughts to these threads. So keep reading!
